Hello could you possibly post a photograph to better see your situation and area of concern?
Having a visual might be helpful to be able to offer the best guidance .....to a help find the best suggestions or potential solution for your problem.
If it is a structural concern it should be replaced. That will give you the most confident solution for safety. If it’s just some small cosemetic areas the best solution would be to cover it up with the decorative rug
If the board is loose it may just need to be nailed, if its glued floor you may have to hire a floor expert to glue it.
Is the floor board thats broken the subfloor (is it open into the floor joiists). If so, I would add a piece of 3/4" plywood, and then top off with your hardwood patch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUmc_xa2c1I
If the subfloor is intact and just the hardwood got broken somehow, I would look for some hardwood to match either at Lumber Liquidators, or a architectural recycler, r even Habitat for Humanity Restore. Here you can see them patching a floor that has the subfloor intact..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcwYDz8BYmU
Remove the broken board. Add bracing for new board. Nail or screw new board.
You need to determine what type of wood the current floor is made from. It's best to use the same type of wood, as you will want to stain/seal it to match the original floor. Measure the width of a current floor board. You will need a new board at least that wide. Make note of how thick the flooring is; it could be 5/8 or 3/4-inch thick. One final hint: new wood needs to sit in your home for at least a week (two is better) before you use it. The new wood will swell or shrink slightly with your home's humidity. If you don't acclimate the wood it could swell and bulge, or shrink leaving a gap. Do an internet search for more info on matching color and finishing wood. There are also many videos available on replacing flooring as well as finishing wood. Read as many articles and watch as many videos as you can. Situations are different, and different people explain what they are doing in various ways. The more you know the easier your job can be.
If you had an extras on hand that would be a good place to start.
Wood filler should help you with that issue
