How can I restore plaster hallway walls that look really ugly?
How can I cover up a hallway and stairwell with so many cracks,wallpaper glue, seams of past construction of mudding seams. This is on plaster walls, not drywall. Looking for economical and quick fix.

It is a fairly large area. two doorways,entrance hallway, and up a full flight of stairs!

Hi Turtle, you could do some quick patches on the obvious cracks and paint with a textured paint to cover the flaws. Paint a lighter color to brighten up the area. Have you thought of a faux wainscoting (done with paint) and faux look molding, you could use real molding but attach it with adhesive instead of nails.

You could also put paneling over the plaster, it's paintable so if you desire a color change down the road you can paint

Have you tried sanding down & use plaster patch (from Lowe's or HD)? Depending on how bad the cracks are, that might work!
You could cover it with 1/4" drywall would be the easiest since it's in such bad shape from your description.
