I did a rescue of a desk for my sewing table. It works great and cost $20 from the thrift store. As for storage, I wrap around cardboard and then put in a Sterilite container that has large pull out drawers. I stand them on end so I can easily see what I have as well as pulling out and putting back in without having to move pieces.

I purchased a 3 tier plastic storage bin from walmart to hold my fabric and sewing supplies. I put the sewing machine on the counter or kitchen table to use.
