Hi Gloria, what is the wax build up on? If its on furniture you may have to try something like an acetone or mineral spirits but that will affect the underlying finish.
Hello. Are you asking about wax build up on furniture or on flooring?
One cup of lemon scented ammonia to one gallon hot water. I wash my floor once a monthy with this to remove old wax and ground in dirt.

Hello Gloria,
If your flooring is Ceramic Tiles. Use a fine steel wool or Brillo Pads and give it a good scrub. I also have used w/up liquid with them too.. You could use Crudd cutter
from the DIY or Large Supermarket.
When I was growing up, we would have to periodically remove the wax build up on the tile floor in my parents' kitchen and den. We used fine steel wool and either a stripper or mineral spirits.
There are some good tips here:

I used the ammonia in water on the kitchen floor to remove the wax. A previous owner of our house had put in beautiful natural slate floor and then waxed over it. Some of the old wax was really hard to get up, the ammonia water worked with mixed results after soaking and a lot of elbow grease. I would try the SOS or Brillo for your project.
I agree with the ammonia solutions.
I highly suggest you wait two months until the windows can be left open for a few hours.
Hello Gloria, hope this helps you out,
