what is the current finish on it? It may be possible to sand that off and refinish it natural.
Also - was it their mistake or yours? If it was theirs they should make it right and give you what you ordered!
Is this a butcher block counter top or a cutting board?
If it was an error, let them know and they should replace it. Unless the wood is stained, you can’t really change the wood’s color without using crazy chemicals.
The company should replace it if it was their mistake. But before you go that route, recheck your order and make sure you ordered what you think you ordered. Sometimes just hitting the wrong key or changing the sequence of numbers or letters may inadvertently order something you did not expect...like the color change.
If you decide to keep and hope to change the color, it may void any warranty on the item.
Best to you.
Here's an article that might help - https://www.nytimes.com/1986/03/30/nyregion/home-clinic-bleaching-wood-two-ways-to-get-down-to-the-nitty-gritty.html
I would contact the company you ordered from and explain the problem. It is there responsibility to get your order correct. If I paid good money I would want what I ordered just like a business wants their payment for the product.

Bev....What do you mean about a mistake in order?
I would sand it and stain the color you want.
I would first as the company to correct the order, if they refuse give them a bad report on Yelp. To lighten, get some wood bleach to lighten the stain, then restain and finish with food grade mineral oil.
Hi Bev. If you don't like the color, you can sand it down and re-stain it with a color that you like. Depending on what you will be using it for, you may need to seal it. Good luck Bev.
Hi Bev, if this was a mistake on the company side, you should be able to exchange it for the lighter one you want. If you can't exchange it, then you can lighten it up using this link

Try to bleach it use a cloth on top cover in bleach let it sit over night keep it wet
I would try bleach too but maybe test an area first to make sure I like it.
Someone mentioned bleach and I think that is a good idea however, I would test a spot that is not that noticeable first.
