Hi J, do you perhaps have a picture of the grandfather clock? My first thought would be that it's going to take some work as the mechanisms inside a grandfather clock are powered by the large weights in the bottom of the clock. They balance the wheels and cogs inside the clock so it keeps accurate time. With that being said if we had a picture perhaps be can suggest a few changes that may work.
I'm unsure that you will be able to do that since the driving mechanisms are in the lower chamber. If they are not, you might be able to achieve it. Please post a few photos of the clock so that we can help you figure it out.
Hello,
I assume the clock does not work or you wish to keep it in the family, because you could sell it!
As the owner of (3) Grandfather clocks and a lover of clocks in general, I would take along to a Clock repairer, or at least take a few photos (inside as well as outside). Then you will get an expert opinion. In my humble opinion I would doubt you could use the workings of the clock, but you are more likely to be able to use the case the clock face and the hands and use a battery movement. The Hood will come off the grandfather clock but you will probably have to make a base for it. The rest of the case could be used as a cupboard or display cabinet if shelves were added + a new top. Best wishes for a good result.
Hmm maybe you can saw it in half but i'd want to check where the clock innards/gears are
I cannot find anything about turning the grandfather clock into a mantle clock - I would contact a clock repair shop and see if they can help you- it would not chime as a mantle clock because the clock is made for the larger standing clock - there are parts and pieces to the clock that makes the clock run so it would not be something you could do unless...you cut the top off, take out all the inside and have it made into a mantle clock - it would not be cheap I don't think
Nope you can't. The weights and pendulum in the lower case operate the clock mechanism
Hi J. I don't believe you can transition it from a grandfather to a mantle clock. All of the gears and weights were put in to function as a grandfather. I don't think you can change all of those working parts to fit into a much smaller mantle. Good luck J. Stay well.
Hi J, I don't think it's possible. If you are dead set on having a mantle clock, see if anyone in your area would be willing to make a trade... if the Grandfather clock is not a family heirloom of course!
