How to fix septic tank field lines?
The field lines for our septic tank aren't leaching properly due to erosion in the area of the end of the lines. I am a senior and am wondering if the "cheap" fix of having a load of topsoil placed over this area would help? Any thoughts? No problems with the tank … just the field lines leaching above ground. We live in an area where there has been a huge amount of rainfall as well as have a high water table.

The best thing to do would be to contact a local septic system contractor in your area. The building codes are very specific to each county/area as to what you can and cannot do with septic tanks. It shouldn't cost you anything to have someone come and take a look and give you their best advice for your situation. I hope your answer will be as simple as what you have in mind!
Here are some things I found that may help out but I agree, it doesn't cost anything to get a free estimate from a professional and see if it is something you can do yourself.

You will probably need some rock as well as soil. It depends on how bad the issue is.
Even better get a couple of different companies. We were having trouble with our sewer lines to the main sewer line blocking. We had three different opinions from licensed companies that recommended some expensive fixes. Last one that came in put one additional clean-out and flushed the line all the way to the main line and back. It worked. It was the least expensive option and caused the least amount of digging. Keep picking brains until you get some sensible advice. It may not be the cheapest, but, it should be guaranteed and effective. The answer is out there, and it may involve less expense than you think. Good luck and stay safe!
Hi 1cs1267. You really should think, at the bare minimum, about replacing those lines. Believe me, you don't want to mess around with this.
You may need a professional to advise you.

I agree, get professional help and have them talk about your problem and see what your options are. They have the skill, tools, and knowledge on how to fix this, it is what they do for a living.
