Hereis an alternative idea:

The first rule: pick flowers and herbs only in dry weather, when the drops of morning dew or rain are completely dry. Wet plants will rot rather than dry out. I had the experience of drying flowers in late autumn, in rainy and slushy weather: some of the flowers were dried (but the color after drying became noticeably paler), and the overwhelming mass went to waste. My parents gave me anniversary gifts in the form of dried flowers, they smelled so beautiful and looked like a real decoration, but not artificial. The second rule: to pick a flower - sushi it immediately. Freshly plucked flowers hold the shape of petals for a while, so it is quite easy to lay them down for drying as needed.
