Having a little difficulty in understanding exactly what you are asking. Here goes, hopefully with help.
Some people do paint the area above the wainscoting the same color, that is their preference. Then they can decorate the upper area with art or what they have in mind. Others use the change in texture or pattern from the wainscoting to add another color or design to the area above the wainscoting.
It is all just what you like and have in mind for that room.
Take a look here, there are images of both:

Hi Susan, it's entirely up to you. Depending on your decor style you may want to paint the wainscoting white for example and the wall portion a different, contrasting color. Wainscot not waynes coat can be either.
Wainscoting can be painted the same color as the top of the wall. It is up to you on your style preference. A classic style of wainscoting is off-white or dark wood but you can make it what you want. Check out magazines. I see it all the time where the bottom half of the paneling is painted the same color as the top. It's beautiful too! If you do paint it the same color, use a semigloss or gloss for the wainscoting because it is a molding that will standout and not hide into the wall. Easier to clean as well. good luck!
The choice is yours, Susan, and the look you want to achieve. I once had some in a kitchen eating area that was stained to match my cabinets.
Hi Susan, this is a personal choice and dependent on the look you want to achieve. Often people use contrasting colors to really accent one or the other portions of the wall. Personally I prefe a darker color on the bottom with a lighter color on the upper portion.
You can but most people paint it a different color. It's a matter of personal preference.
Hello. It can be done both ways. Either the same color or a different color depending upon your Decour aesthetic.
Hello,
Most people do, but there isn't a hard and fast rule. You could paint or stain it any colour you wish to match in with style of room.......Good luck!
Susan,
We just finished a bathroom renovation in which I installed bead board. It is painted Benjamin Moore White. We decided on a bright contrast color on top (B. M. Gossamer Blue) to brighten up the space. Like others said, it depends on your tastes and what you are trying to achieve with your paint scheme.
You could paint it the same, but why would you with all the wonderful wall colors out there! Even if you want the color more muted, use different shades of the same color. If the waynes coat is there, show it off!
You can paint the wainscoting the same color as the top or can paint it a contrasting color. It is a matter of personal taste.
I would paint the wainscotting with a lighter color.
You can or do it different for a contrast
Hi Susan,
Usually if the wall is the same colour all the way down, but if it is darker at the bottom, then you can do it to tone in with the wall.
