We had good results with ours. My best advice is you can't prep enough! Sand then really really well, clean them really well and use the best primer you can. The end result is only as good as the start!
I've painted all kinds of furniture & cabinets, from solid wood to cheap laminate. For good kitchen results, prep is the key. Make sure you thoroughly clean all surfaces. Also, use a good gripping paint for kitchen usage.

My kitchen cabinets are cheap but I am planning on painting them either this fall or next spring. Giving them a new look with paint will make a huge difference but don't forget the hardware and hinges.
Take off old hardware and "cook" it in a crock pot on low for about 5 hours. This will clean off the crude and they will then be ready to paint after they dry.
