Hello. I do realize that you were asking for DIY’s but I think the most economical place to find picture frames are garage sales thrift stores and consignment shops. You can buy them they are for the less than the cost of assembling the diy materials. Sometimes unique art can come in these frames sometimes it needs to be discarded. Frames can be spray-painted ortho finished and customized to any desire decor. I have taken gaudy gold frames and made them a patinaed pewter to match my new homes satin nickel hardware

With the cost of lumber having risen a great deal lately in many locations, I agree that purchasing either new or second hand frames may be more cost effective than trying to build your own.
