any ideas how to turn a room into a jungle room

Spiffed-up Spaces on Jul 31, 2012I'd suggest using natural elements and nature-inspired colors - greens, brown/tans and maybe orange/red-orange and golden yellow accessories, art for pops of color. You can consider a grass-cloth wallpaper on one wall (or all depending on size), sisal -either in a rug or wall hanging, Bamboo and greenery (large palm leaves, etc). A suspended bed or a hanging cocoon-type chair would be fun; animal print or leather hides for rugs, throws , pillows, etc. Hope this helps!Helpful Reply

Z on Jul 31, 2012How old is your son and where do you think he got the idea from? That could help me and others brainstorm. A few things that come to mind would be aging any wood furniture he has with the vinegar and steel wool method. But really most jungle ideas I can come up with are more childish. Do you have a picture of his room and it's furnishings?Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Aug 01, 2012Great ideas, Put in a small tent so he feels like hes camping. You can also purchase some stockade fence along the wall so he feels like he is in a camping environment. I am sure you can also get murals of jungle themes that can be put on wall. This can be fun thing. But it is normally short lived, so be sure of what ever you do can be changed back easily. Be sure to show us your final results!Helpful Reply

Jeanette S on Aug 01, 2012If you are handy with lumber, build a bed on stilts with his private space underneath. Surround his private space with some privacy fencing with a gate that closes...this could be his tree house. His private space could either be a desk, etc. or if too convential for him, add a couple of bean bags and a small TV for games! A repurposed old hanging light fixture could have vines draping from it over to other parts of the room. Paint the ceiling blue with some clouds and his walls could be shades of light green (almost white) on which you put some large palm leaves! Let him pick some of the elements! Even an old tree branch set in a pot could serve as a coat/bookback rack! Some short branches screwed into a board attached to the wall could be a hat rack or could hold string bags for sports equipment. The possibilities are unlimited. In fact, he could help build some of these items and have a real sense of ownership.Helpful Reply

Spiffed-up Spaces on Aug 01, 2012Di, I'd ask him some specific questions about what he would love it to look and feel like. Military themed is quite different from jungle. But, you can still really do some cool things. If he wants more of a military/combat feel, see if there is a local military surplus store near you. They have all kinds of fun things and you can get really creative with all the stuff...Here's a link to an on-line one: http://www.armysurplusworld.com/?engine=adwords!758&keyword=*military+surplus*&match_type=&s_kwcid=military%20surplus|3178888112&gclid=COWlkO-_x7ECFYTd4AoduVkAFg A friend of mine, who "didn't really want to go all out" with the theme did hang a camo net over her son's bed - just one idea.Helpful Reply
