Tina Krenz on Dec 03, 2014It depends on what your style is. I like country, very country, so to begin with, I wouldn't have carpet period. Second, that square pattern would have to go, because it doesn't match with the other flooring. As far as the railing, I would leave it alone, because it matches the baseboard, but the iron rods I would want them to be rustic looking or at least country looking, and not black. Again, it all comes down to what your style is and colors you like. I can, like I said before, really visualize ideas and people who are artistic just have to do the rest. Hope this helps.Helpful Reply

Marion Nesbitt on Dec 04, 2014There's a lot going on re flooring. Is that a rug with a square pattern or parquet? Think it would look better carrying through the darker flooring. I, too, would remove the carpeting on the stairs. If you can afford it, a runner with rods to keep it in place would look nice. Lots of patterns to choose from to suit country, traditional, modern, etc. Think there is too much contrast between the stark white and black. However, looks like all your trim is the same bright white. I'd think about painting the black railing rather than changing trim, stairs, etc. to a creamy white.Helpful Reply

Sherrie on Dec 04, 2014I love the white and how it pops against the color and the flooring. I love the black wrought iron. It just stands out!Helpful Reply

Susan Bott on Dec 04, 2014I like it just the way it is. Find a couple of black iron pieces ( or something else with black in it) to hang on both walls next to the stairs and it will make it tie in to the decor.Helpful Reply

AMA434007 on Dec 04, 2014I would definitely lose the parquet flooring and put wood in and continue it on the stairs. I like the white and black together, maybe add some accents in black to tie it all together.Helpful Reply

Bonnie on Dec 04, 2014The white is very pretty if you have that type of stark b & w contemporary decor, but it looks like you have some antique furniture and your wood floors are also dark....this is quite a contrast of styles. To blend the railing, paint a deeper color such as mahogony, ebony, or walnut. You might also continue the darker color to the inside sill of that wonderful octagonal window there at the stair turn landing...... Those are mediterranean styled spindle posts, so you could make it a little vignette there and add some more wrought iron pieces to add to the walls; candle sconces, maybe? Be sure to show us the after-effect when you decide what to do with it!! :)Helpful Reply

MaryAnn B on Dec 04, 2014The white is a bit stark, but if like it leave it alone. If you think it is too "white" you could soften it a bit with a light pastel to match your décor and re paint. It is a beautiful lucky you to have such a talented husband. I like it white!Helpful Reply
