How do you unclog clogged drains?
-
Johanne Loubert on Dec 27, 2014When it just starts to clog, I put 1/4 cup of baking soda in the drain and add 2 liters of boiled water and lets stand for 15 minutes then rinse. Usually, the problem is soap that sticks to the plumbing. Take care, the baking soda react to hot water. It's ecologic, so there's no problem if you forget to rinse and you can retry right away.Helpful Reply

L on Dec 27, 2014I just had this happen to me last week, after giving our long black haired dog a bath. Got the wet/dry vac out, and put it over the drain area. Turned machine on, and Oh Wow, did the hair come up easily. Then, I did use one of those hair grabber tools to get way down the drain. Even more hair came up, this time from the other dog, with blonde hair, that was done months ago.Helpful Reply

Julie on Dec 27, 2014Years ago a plumber suggested baking soda, bleach and hot boiling water and let it stand as long as possible. Great for regular maintenance. We do it when we leave for town for a couple of days.Helpful Reply

Carole on Dec 27, 2014When you manage to unclog it, I would suggest using some sort of net or mesh device over your shower drain to catch hair in future. It will prevent the same thing happening again. Prevention is always better option than cure! Hair is usually the culprit when shower drains clog.Helpful Reply

Beth Barnett on Dec 28, 2014I also used baking soda and vinegar, let it sit for at least 20 minutes and chase it with boiling water. If it is still slow running or clogged, get the plunger! It really helps things along if vinegar and baking soda don't work all the way. I haven't had to snake or use one of those plastic zips yet, but I would try that if the plunger fails.Helpful Reply
