Liliana Wells on Jan 01, 2015I have the same in my laundry room. I put rarely used items in my high cabinets. I don't mind using the step stool since I don't have to do it very often. Also, one of these grabbers may help you http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=reacher%2Fgrabber&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=8045782404&hvpos=1t1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15555021184572095176&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&hvdev=c&ref=pd_sl_ixniznmhs_bHelpful Reply

Cynthia Watanabe on Jan 01, 2015I also put rarely used items up high. I've been thinking of removing the doors from some ceiling mounted cabinets that I can't get to very easily. I may just convert the space into display space.Helpful Reply

Darla on Jan 01, 2015If you can't easily reach it, use it for seasonal items that you don't have to get to all the time. That way they won't be taking up more convenient spaces.Helpful Reply

GarynSharon Daniels on Jan 01, 2015Thank you all for your suggestions. I definitely will use it for seasonal storage. I may even go so far as to label the boxes so that it makes sense. Besides, that will free up needed space in our coat closet for more winter scarves and gloves. Thank you, friends.Helpful Reply

Julies1949 on Jan 01, 2015You can get "pull down" shelving now. When you open the door the shelves drop down for easy access.Helpful Reply

Carol on Jan 02, 2015I use the lower shelves for pet food and supplies; upper shelves for less commonly used items like back-ups of cleaning supplies. Also, I am planning on having a contractor extend them out further from the wall since I now have front-loaders on pedestals so some of them are even less accessible than they were previously, and, yes, I do use the grabbers to help me get things down, or one of my 6 foot tall sons or grandson!Helpful Reply

Virgi S on Jan 02, 2015Add a shelf just above washer level and purchase baskets for use of frequently used items to not waste that space. Use above for seasonal or rarely used items accessible by a step stool. On my shelf I labeled baskets for each child since we're empty nesters. When there's something I want to give-photos, coupons, receipts, things they've left, they simply check the box before on each visit. Cabinet could be removed from wall and lowered leaving a nice display space above. That way unattractive detergent containers, etc could be on the lowest shelf concealed behind the doors.Helpful Reply

Swan Road Designs on Jan 02, 2015Most cabinets are secured to the walls at the studs so they can be stable and safe. My first thought is to look inside to see if you can find any of the hardware/screws, etc. that have your cabinets attached to the studs. If you determine where they are attached, just remove them and drop them down to a level you can easily manage, then use the space high above them for very seldom used items.Helpful Reply

Nancy on Oct 27, 2015I use those shelves for dog towels, paper towels and light bulbs etc. I built a two step box with the base a little less than the dryer width and a hinged lid and a small hole in the side of bottom step and it hides the cat litter box . 1. I get to the high cupboards and 2. the dogs can not get the kitty potty.Helpful Reply
