KMS Woodworks on Jan 30, 2013You could have the entire surface ground smooth then stained...another option over the stain would be an expoy type finish that some folks use in high end garages. With some proper prep tile could be installed too. You just need to ensure the thin-set gets a good bond to the existing slab.Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Jan 30, 2013When your saying its not smooth, do you mean not level, or rough broom type of finish? Uneven floors are very hard to tile for the reasons stated by the store. However a broom type of finish, one that is level but has all sorts scratches on the surface, such as you would find on perhaps sidewalks etc to prevent slipping can be tiled over. However you need to be sure that the existing finish is not loose or chipping, anything that can cause the bond of cement to loosen to the tile. Then using a uncoupling membrane, such as Schluter Ditra will solve the rough surface texture issue without going with a grinder to the surface to level out. http://www.schluter.com/6_1_ditra.aspxHelpful Reply

Jeanette S on Feb 01, 2013Have you tried scrubbing bubbles? It is good for cleaning that tile with little recesses and brick. You could spray it down, use a stiff long handle brush and then either wipe off or hose off if you have it an opening to the outside. A couple of cans should get it clean. Not being familiar with how weather protected this area is, I have seen those snap together carpet squares put down like a rug. If any of them get dirty or damaged, just take it up...clean and put back down or replace. That is a thought.Helpful Reply
