How do you quickly remove sheet vinyl with coving in bathroom?

The vinyl is old and very thick and has shrunk away from corners and along shower. I want to remove the glue from the coving area and paint walls down to the floor (with new narrow baseboard instead of coving). What is the proper way to remove the glue? The floor is underlayment or plywood I believe. Do I need to remove all glue in order to install large tile squares?

We just had our flooring done by a professional, long story short, as long as there are no gaping holes, you can put sub floor right over top of the existing flooring, then seal with silicone along the edges.
It does a bit, we changed the toilet, but before that I had to get a flange extension kit (attached a link) and when we replaced our cabinet we went with the same same (or larger).

You can also add a transition strip from the hallway to the bathroom as we did, we have carpet in the hallway
