How to cut a mirror?

I have a huge mirror in my bathroom. How can I cut the mirror without taking it off from the wall? I want to cut about 2-3 inches at the bottom so I can put some tiles in between the mirror and the counter top.
Could you just put the tiles over the mirror?
I agree with Sue the easiest thing would be to tile over the existing mirror.
is it resting on vanity? or are there clips holding top,sides,or bottom in place ?Might be small metal brackets between mirror and vanity edge with clips on top sides. If it's adhered to wall with construction adhesive you will have tough time getting it off after you cut it. If it's got no clips it's probably using adhesive. You could cut it with glass cutter that's the easy part; if it's using clips you'll need to support it somehow because when you cut off bottom it will slide down wall onto vanity edge like it is now or you can remove it from clips/wall and lay it out flat & cut it. IT will be HEAVY. it would be best if you could remove it, cut it, lay tile like you want, rehang mirror. Mirror would need to be removed. Like Sue and Mogie suggest. Tile over the mirror. Use E6000 adhesive.
I had the same situation with the mirror always water spotted. Found some small tile press on squares at local hardware store, cut to fit, pressed right on bottom of mirror and so happy with the results. There are various color combinations of tile on these sheets. Quick, easy and inexpensive.
You cut glass with a diamond tipped glass cutter. If it does not fracture the way you want you will replace the entire mirror. Glue on the frame, glue on the tile. Don't try to cut the mirror.
Hi Marjorie we had a similar situation with a smaller mirror in our bathroom. We just framed around the part glued to wall.
It was easier than removing the mirror and taking a chance on damaging both the wall and the mirror.
Neither one of us wanted to hold the heavy mirror up!
It certainly would save you a great deal of work if you could frame around it.Good Luck !
