Use only a few light colors, keep minimal items out and use small items rather than large. Put a plant on a shelf.
Tilly: I used a black and white color palette -- with soft blue walls. The space feels bigger! ...I even added a photo of a window --- since this bathroom has no window ether!

That's actually a difficult question to answer without knowing your style and budget. However, the colors, patterns, and materials you choose can make the space feel just like you've imagined.
Wallpaper is making a great comeback and can work in some well-ventilated bathrooms. Both, wallpaper and tile can help you achieve the modern look you are going for. The style of your vanity can also add to the modern touch you want in the space.
If its in the budget, could you install a skylight? That can instantly provide bright light and "open" the space up. This bathroom is both modern, now bright (they added a skylight), and there isn't a ton of white. Sometimes people think that a space has to be white or light-colored to feel spacious but that's not always the case.

if you will remove windowyou need to plan on good ventilation so mold doesnt grow
Hi Tilly, the easiest fix would be to add mirrors and lighting. You can also paint any dark surfaces (vanity, walls etc.) a lighter color to instantly brighten up your space.
