How can you make a small closet that is cluttered have more room?

I have a small closet with so much stuff in it. I want to make more room without throwing anything out.

What type of closet? Clothes? Linen? Cleaning? Group things together and use every bit of space you can, including the back of the door and the sides. If clothes, use efficient and space-saving folding techniques to squeeze more into less space. Put things into bins/baskets for a less cluttered appearance.

And here is another idea: Iuse a sturdy metal rubber-coated hanger with rubber-tipped clips tostore my scarves, so they don’t slip. I bought the clipsat a dollar store. You can use this for other small itemstoo: socks, bras, panties.
Youcan also store small items in handbags you currently don’t use,just hang a tag on the handle detailing what’s inside. Thereare also hangers for belts on the market. Good luck.

Buy some Ziploc Space Saver bags and bag things you're not using. They will take up much less space and the bags can then be store flat on a shelf or in a storage basket

Choose/make storage organizers depending on your space (preferably some vertical ones too) and use vacuum seal bags to store what is rarely in usage, like seasonal clothing.

step 1- inventory closet : what have you not used in the past 2 years? if there is not a sentimental attachment involved- do you really need it? anything w/ holes need mending/ leaking? fix or pitch. Yeah- harsh words.... but seriously, some items degrade with neglect/ non-use.

step 2- group like with like- t shirts here, kitchen cleaners here/ if you haven't worn it or used it in the past few years (seasonal/ sentimental items excluded)...move it along. donate or properly dispose of it. some one who would use it won't find it if it's still in your closet.

step 3- put the big things in place 1st., in an appropriate container -with label. ie spot cleaner for carpet/ work out gear, the kids report cards and art work.

step4-least used items on the bottom or back, most often used up front or at a comfortable reach.

if you use boxes/ bags hanging for containers- label, label, label. shoe pockets on back of door- label as well. finding the same size boxes is possible, and they stack better than a collection of off sizes. check with a friend who works in an office- copy paper boxes are nice and sturdy.

step 5- those sentimental no 'way can i part with them'-put them out on display, use them as art. a collage of the kids art, framed can look cool. Christmas cards framed make nice accents at that time of year.

I have a old time 1950's closet super small. I use a cascading hangers and can get 4/6 blouses on one, same kind of hangers except for pants, and one for dresses. You can also put small chest of drawers in some or install a another hanger close to floor for blouses under the larger one. I have rolling carts under the bed for shoes and one cart could have bag for it to put sweaters in. I also do it old time way and rotate clothes fall/winter; spring/summer and whatever season is packed up stored away. You can buy any of these items at retail stores when they first came out they were plastic so avoid those unless you have super light clothes they break, finally metal ones appeared and that solved the breaking problem.

First rule of closet organization is to purge. Keep, donate, or toss - those three little words will do wonders. After that is done, hang all the keep with hangers pointing outward (reverse hanger position). That way you will know in another 6 months to a year, what you are actually wearing. When you buy something new, toss something old. Second rule of closet organization is to purge again after 6-12 months. Also use other suggestions mentioned above.
