use wicker baskets to organize items.
my clothes that need to be hung up went to the never used coat closet. I found a wire cube system and cubed the closet. Keeps item where I can see them.
on at least one side, hang two rods rather than just one. doubles shirt/blouse space.
Definitely agree on two rails if you have space. Also, don't forget to use the space all the way up to the ceiling for extra space. I use open cubes and don't use the baskets to store. Does tend to keep me donating more than if they are hidden from sight.
I wouldn't use the wire set ups as sold as I find they are cheaper at first but wood really works better. Be sure to paint bright white and put a good strong light in the closet.
Good Luck.
Decide what you use most & your favourites - accommodate them 1st. Use 1 side wall to hang scarves, belts or small baskets to hold small misc. items (maybe a jewellery rack). Buy a flip out pants hanger to hang several tank tops from straps. If you don't have front hall coat closet, mount 1 or 2 shelves on bottom to hold shoes (keep off floor a few inches for sweep ease later). Mount shelves up high & buy vacuum shrinking bags to hold seasonal clothes or use baskets turned sideways on a shelf as a cubby system. Use inside closet doors to hang robes or mount racks with hanging baskets for lingerie or socks. Bright lights are really helpful. NEVER keep anything you haven't worn in 1 year. If it has sentimental value, take a picture of it or cut out a piece of it & creatively frame for your wall. Hang scented sachets from belt hooks or jewellery hooks (or tucked into shoes) so your closet smells great every time you open it. Good luck.
