How to build a room divider with a drop ceiling

we have a bedroom that we would like to divide into two for privacy but can't build a wall due to fire regulations so ideally we been to build a partial divider, it can't be too wide as we need the space. Can't be attached to drop ceiling. Also have a ceiling fan in the middle of the ceiling.

humm...my room divider was curtains on a draw back system. the othe room divider was panels hinged so the panels would fold. About the thickness of a screen door.
