Drop leaf table repair and restoration

Lisa
by Lisa
I was given two drop leaf tables. The round one has no legs or supporting hardware. The rectangular one came in pieces with no instructions, I've managed to attach the legs and hardware on the square one, and it does slide out, but I'm not sure I have assembled the end support brackets correctly. I want to restore the round table, but want a less complicated leg and support system. The legs on the "Paris" table are metal; I would like to put wooden ones on the round one. I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing here. Please help guide me in the right, or any direction!

Legs are generally attached to those corner pieces on the inside . HTH

I would also use washers around the screws to stabilize the table legs.

Thank you Wanda. I did assemble the legs on the square table. I'm at a loss as to where to begin with the round table, as it has no legs or supporting hardware. I've no experience with drop leaf tables, and am hoping I can find a "kit" on line for this. Thanks to you also Karen, I did add some washers to the legs on the square table, and it helped a great deal.

Thank you for the suggestions but this doesn't answer my question because I'm needing to know what type of legs and support system for the legs. I used the square table as an example of what type of system I have experience with. I was hoping that someone would know if I can purchase the leg support system in a kit. Thanks so much for your time. Hometalk is one of my favorite places to be!

Go to Rockler Woodworker website, they have plenty of kits. I believe with the drop leaf you are looking for a center support leg system. It screws on in the middle section of the table.

I know in the back of "Country Living" magazine, there's an index of businesses that have restoration and reproduction legs, hardware, etc. And they probably could answer any questions you have if you call their numbers.I would definitely think twice before doing anything to the table to make it "less complicated"-my small gateleg table, from 1900 or before, is worth over $1,000!!! Be sure of what you have before you do anything major to any part of it, other than restoring the finish.
