How can I make plug in wall lamps for a bedroom?

I have seen a good idea and want to make something like it. I need two wall mounted bedside lamps with plug in cords and have seen some using shelf brackets. It seems you can hang all kinds of lights on these. Any ideas? Where can I buy the cord, switch and attachments?

Hi Sally. I'm Cindy. I recommend taking a walk in the electrical department of your local home improvement store. They have a selection of wall sconces for you to look at. If you find one that you like, you can duplicate it. That is where you will also find the individual components to make one yourself. Good luck Sally and Happy Holidays.

And, Sally, you might need to check your local ordinances. Some wiring must be done by licensed electricians, like a new power box, while others are left to the homeowner. But missing an ordinance can cancel your insurance, cost you fees or fines, and force you to have the whole job redone. However, my son rewired their old house, moving and putting in new plugs and overhead lights, except the wiring box, which he had a pro to do. The electrician approved all of Kevin’s work, and he couldn’t believe Kevin learned it all from library books and YouTube videos. Maybe you can learn how that way, too! Best wishes. ☺️

Thank you, but the reason I asked about plug in lights is because I don't want to make holes in the wall and run wiring of any kind.

  • Cord, switch and lamp supplies can be found in any hardware store, or big box home improvement center. Smaller, better hardware stores sometimes sell the cord by the foot or yard. Can be found in clear, white, bone, brown and black. They will have plugs, switches, whatever you need.

I bought a swag lamp kit in the lighting section of Lowe's. That sounds like the type of light you want since you'll be hanging it. It will have a lot more cord than you need, though,

I am learning, Darlene, I shall take a look in Home Depot and Lowes.

If there is no hard wiring involved, but merely plugging in the lamp you made into an outlet already existing, then there is no need to call an electrician.
