What type of wood do I need to create blocks and wood bookshelves?

    Use whatever wood that would give you the look you want and are stainable to the look you want. My mom did one with reused brick and stained redwood. She went with one inch thick wood that was rounded for the front edge. You want to make sure it is thick enough to not warp from the weight of the books and whatever else you plan on putting on the shelves.
