To keep out moisture, masonry paint is an easy way to seal your planter, use 2-3 layers. Also clear varnish does the job.

You can smear it on with your hands. If not thick enough add more concrete. You could also get a container just a little bit larger or even make a form out of cardboard. Put cement between the cardboard and planter so the planter becomes a liner.
The easiest way to make it look like stone, is to buy Rustoleum Stone paint. Spray it on after you use the Rustoleum primer. Wala done
