Can my front steps be extended by using concrete blocks and pavers?

My 4 concrete front steps are narrow and steep and rather than having new steps poured, I would like to use concrete blocks with pavers to add the width and correct height to each riser? can it be done?

  • Sounds "iffy" to me and not stable enough. Can you post a photo? Might be something to consider as a temporary fix till you can save up the money to pour new stairs. I just worry about stability and falling with a kid in your arms, bags of groceries or a rambunctious pet. Safety first!

Yes you can. Many people have used blocks and pavers to update their steps. Adds character to plain steps. Just make sure they are level. Use a concrete construction adhesive in a caulk tube to secure them. They have had concrete and landscape block adhesive for a while.

I think in the long run you're better off getting new steps poured, to code. Consider making them wider for curb appeal, too, with a platform at the door. Get a couple of estimates, it might be more reasonable than you think. Don't forget to factor in what you would have spent updating the old steps!

I want to say be careful with using something not attached. You want to check with city building codes for guideline. If you or a visitor were to fall because of these steps or the ones you add to your present steps
