check the archive- a while back there was a project to make a fire pit, bricks stacked just so air flow could get to the flames, and a round grill topper.
that spot with the blue house next to a box that says "find your next project" it has a magnifying glass ..type in "fire pits" and see what pops up. you may get a few more ideas.
Lowes has a kit with the fitted stones and it arrives on a pallet. No grout is needed from what we have seen, and this would be above ground. IF you want cheap, you can always just buy a copper finished bowl on legs and cut a hole in the ground to fit it.
Look at pinterest. There will be the firepit (and instructions to built it) you are looking for..
The easiest cheapest way? Get an old weber type grill - take the legs off or cut them down and either bury it in sand for stability or pile bricks and balance it on top.
Dig a Hole deep i the shape of a circle. Can put rocks, bricks or nothing around it....that is what we did.....living out in the country!
