Rub gently with baking soda and a non-scratch sponge. If it's very stained, may take a little more elbow grease to do it. The soda will not scratch the stainless.

Put a kettle of hot water on the stove.
Put 1 dishwashing detergent pod in the pot.
Put the coffee pot in the sink.
Add the boiling water to the pot until it is full.
Let it sit for 30 min.
Carefully swirl the water around in the pot. Be careful because the water is hot!
Pour out the dirty water.
Rinse the pot

Try making a paste of white vinegar and baking soda. It will bubble up. Generously work into the the stained area with a soft cloth. You may need to leave on a minute or so. Repeat if necessary. Rinse well once stain is gone. :)

Why bother? Alot of people I know never even wash the pot. Just rinse it out. The coffee flavors enhance the next pot.

I meant baking soda and hot water... however, it will eat through the oily residue left from your coffee...
