Make a thin paste of baking soda and water. Apply with a soft, damp cloth, wiping with direction of stainless steel grain. Wipe off residue with soft cloth dampened with water and buff dry with soft microfiber cloth.
Joanie, restaurants used to use baby oil. Just a super tiny bit then rub and buff. Good luck.

Some you just can't remove. I have one of those on my dishwasher. Stainless Steel comes in various qualities. Lowe's sells a type of stainless that is impervious to stains.
Wipe it down good with a wet cloth. Use a paper towel to wipe it with vegetable oil in a circular motion. Then use white vinegar on another paper towel to wipe off the oil. Dry with a clean cloth.
