Put a bowl of ammonia in bowl and leave in oven at least 24 hrs. The grud will soften and you can wipe out with paper towels.

I also read that boiling water with lemon juice would work as well. I haven't tried it yet but I will once my oven needs cleaning. I'd probably try the lemon water before ammonia just to avoid the fumes and chemicals.

The ammonia method works for light grease but if you have some heavy duty crud, the best I've found is Easy Off Degreaser in a pump bottle (no fumes) in a cold oven. Seriously works every time. I've been in your shoes before, and the repairman who replaced the unit (cost about $130 incl. labor) said the self-cleaning feature in today's ovens only appear because people demand the feature. They truly are not meant for household usage. Bottom line was 'don't use this part of your oven.'

I use a product that may be purchased from Walmart. Purple Degreaser which is located in the automotive department. Just spray it on and let it sit and you can wipe the grease off with a rag. I have also scraped off the grease with a razor blade (that you use to remove paint from windows).

I put a bowl of white vinegar in and bake on 350 for at least 15 minutes. Makes it super clean. No ammonia fumes . If extra scrubbing is needed make a paste of white vinegar and baking soda .

Everyone has problems with these aqualift self cleaning ovens. Why didn't they just keep the old way when the ovens locked, got very hot and cleaned everything. It was much better!! Now after the aqualift is done we have to clean them ourselves.

The Aqualift in the ovens is useless, the old way when the ovens locked and became hot it was ash that you wiped off this you scrub and scrub and still don't come clean. My spinal problems make it so I cannot bend too long so having a self-clean oven that doesn't actually clean itself is useless. I clean my oven as often as I can but if you are cooking for the day and something runs over it is baked on and stains the bottom.
