My shag rug has grey stains from shoes that I can't get out. Does anyone know how/if I can paint the rug a grey to hide the stains?

I would not recommend painting a shag carpet.Have you tried using the white vinegar and baking soda trick?

Try using the vinegar and baking soda first. But if it doesn't work, you could try this, I helped a friend dye a whole restaurant carpet with a spray can (from garden section) and RIT dye. It worked pretty well, I'd suggest trying it in a hidden spot. I also have to say we didn't dye a shag carpet Maybe you can go with a dark grey.

How about dying it a darker color so that stains aren't as apparent? I generally don't even buy white because I'm a stain-magnet

Bleach it. Put Javex and water in a spray bottle, and soak the area.

I knew someone who mixed up RIT dye and put in a spray bottle. She then sprayed her entire living room carpet and it came out amazing. She even did her sofa later and it also came out looking brand new.

I THINK THE RIT DYE IN A SPRAY BOTTLE IS THE VERY BEST SOLUTION!!!!!
