Fabreeze for fabric
Liberally sprinkle the hats with baking soda and stick them in a plastic bag. Seal the bag and leave for a few days. Remove the hats, dust, vacuum the baking soda off. Repeat if necessary.
Febreeze will not work. Febreeze has an enzyme that coats odors on a microscopic level. As the coating gets heavy they drop with the odor. Any aggitaition/movement like sitting down on a sofa or walking on a carpet/floor will break the coating and the odor comes back.
