How do we clean our area rug that is on a laminate floor?

We understand we need to clean liquids up immediately when spilled on laminate floors because it will seep between the boards causing them to swell and rise. Regular steam cleaning of a rug would surely get water on the laminate floor so how do we clean it? That ”dry clean” type of cleaning didn’t get it clean.

I do mine on either my garage floor or the concrete apron of the driveway on a nice sunny day and it dries real quick. I have also done clients on decks, or even kitchen floors - whereever it won't damage the floor.

If your going to use the dry stuff, Resolve does the best job with their soft carpet brush.

Yes Resolve is a vacuum up product but I use carpet brush that used to come with the product, now they have a brush with a long handle.... oh they have foam now.... https://www.amazon.com/RESOLVE-Clean-Carpet-Cleaning-System/dp/B00B9H64XK/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1530378444&sr=8-12&keywords=resolve+carpet+cleaner

My last house had white carpets, omg only a male builder would put white carpets in, I had to spot those rugs through 6 rooms daily. And I used the dry Resolve, but I do like foam..... I use the Dollar Tree Homestore Foam Carpet Cleaner now for myself and my clients, and yes I also have a Hoover SteamVac with Surge Clean. I have just spotted with this Homestore Foam Carpet cleaner for my clients and gotten up spots the apartment's Stanley Steamers have not gotten up.

you have to take it outside or in a room where is a floor that the steamer will not harm.

We put down a large blue tarp (plastic} and rolled the rug back out on it. Used our home carpet cleaner and within a few hours it was completely dry and looked great. Yours might take a little longer because it looks a little thicker. Spot clean with Resolve (it is a foam in a can) ahead of using the carpet cleaner.

A tarp! Great idea that we hadn’t even thought of....also the heads-up about pretreating w/ Resolve. Huge THANK YOU!

I use Woolite High Traffic Spray. I rub the foam into the carpet fibers using a moist sponge mop. When dry, it gets a good vacuuming.

Take mat to a place that doesn't have that type of flooring or place heavy duty polythene under it so steam doesn't go through!

  • Using a gentle rug brush, gently agitate the fibers of the rug by sweeping it across laminate floors. In doing so, you can help the shampoo work its way into the cloth and loosen any trapped dirt or filth. Avoid using excessive force when cleaning delicate textiles to avoid damaging them.

I clean my area rugs on my driveway on a nice warm day using my Hoover floor cleaner. Apply the water with carpet cleaning solution in about 4 x 4' sections of the rug and then vacuum up the moisture and repeat until the entire rug has been cleaned. Sometimes I go over the entire rug again just using hot water and a cup of vinegar in the tank and vacuum up the moisture again to get the rug cleaner removed as much as possible so the cleaner doesn't attract dirt so readily. Amazing how dirty carpeting can get even though it is vacuumed regularly. That's one of the reasons I chose not to have wall to wall carpet in my home!

Hi Lynn, hope this helps you. Honestly I would pull the rug and clean it on a concrete floor in the garage or on driveway, that way you don't need to worry about damaging the laminate. Otherwise this video may help.

Most area rugs are washable. I washed mine on a clothes line with a hose and scrub brush and let it dry outside.
