I would first use a pet enzyme stain remover to get the odor out, you can find at any pet store, and even the Dollar Tree has one, then I would wash it and add some 20 Mule Team Laundry Borax 1/2 c in the wash cycle with your soap.
Try Persil detergent, but beware, it is scented. Or, if you can find it, Era detergent.
i use oxy spray, sometimes a paste of white vinegar and baking soda, hydrogen peroxide if the cover is cotton and white and a oxy detergent. I have had good experiences with hot water but some fabrics reccomend warm. vibwgar is a great deodorizer for urine
I use Resolve carpet spray for spots.
I wash in warm water with a low suds soap and vinegar rinse, toss in a couple heaping tablespoons of baking soda. Then lay between old sheets and towels in the sun to dry. Then to make fluffy again toss in the dryer on the "fluff" or "air dry" (no heat), cycle with a couple felted wool dryer balls.

Hi Dee: What I use for pet stains and smells is a product called Odormute You can get it online or at some pet stores or I think Walmart carries it. Spray the area and let it sit for about 20 minutes then wash. It's best to use a down-safe detergent and then, only 1/2 the amount recommended. Wash with half the recommended amount of down-safe detergent on a gentle cycle. Then, hang in the sun to dry, or, if your washer and dryer aren't big enough to handle them, go to a laundromat. Their machines are huge! And, it's best to use a large front loading washing machine. Set the dryer to the low heat/low tumble cycle. To help redistribute and fluff up feathers and filling, add wool dryer balls or clean tennis balls to the cycle.
It can be amazing the amount of pet stains that can be removed with pet emzyme products. We like natures miracle.
