How to fix damage from cat on rug?

Hi all, We rescued a cat last summer and she still has claws. She tends to clench her paws while sitting on my bathroom rug, which has a rubber backing. While she hasn't made long slits in it, there are some puncture marks. I'm afraid to wash it, because I know what a mess it is when these fall apart. Do you think putting rubber cement or anything else would make my rug washable again? Any cat owners have suggestions for rugs that are cat proof in the bathroom?? Thanks in advance!!

You could try using E6000 glue on the holes to stop any fraying, or fabric glue. Can't guarantee either will work but I found both work for me to stop fabric from continuing to fray after cutting

Most cats prefer fluffy high-pile rugs for digging their claws into, so a flatter weave might be better. The other thing you can try is to buy a wooden bathroom mat and place it on top of the rubber backed one. That way your purr baby won't be able to claw the mat. Our kitty loved the dinning room rug to scratch and claw. So when the rug got really bad, I got a new one but I cut a huge piece of the old rug out and left it for him to claw and scratch to his delight. This is his rug. He sits on it, claws it, and scratches all he wants and doesn't get scolded. Get the kitty his own rug!! Thank you so much for giving a loving home to a kitty.
