there is a product called TSP that is recommended to wash cabinets with before painting. It gets rid of grease and grime. It can be purchased at any hardware store.
Try a solution of hot water, baking soda and vinegar.
I like Simple Green to remove greasy stuff.
I use a cheap orange oxy cleaner that I found at Home Depot. It seems to clean anything really well. It even cleaned vinyl on the boat that was turning black from dirt and probably mildew. They now look like new (the vinyl was put in the boat in 1989)!

If your cupboards were Polyurethaned, do not use vinegar or clean it off quickly. Are they laminated or solid wood?
I used a tablespoo of blue Dawn in about a half gallon of warm water and few magic erasers for the ceiling fan in my kitchen. Then I wiped it down with a clean wet cloth to remove the soap residue. Worked beautifully and the fan looks new again.
