How would you hand-clean a sofa?

I have a sofa that I just want to freshen up. What is the best DIY cleaning product mixture that I should use and how would it be applied and dried?

Sprinkle on some baking soda and let it sit for a few hours, then vacuum it up. Otherwise a good vacuuming is really all you can do.

I now have leather but I used to use the same cleaning solution on my upholstered fabric that I used on my carpet. It always came out clean.
