How do you get rid of musty smell in wood nightstand with 1 drawer?
How do you get rid of musty smell in wood nightstand w/1 drawer. Have tried vinegar, baking soda, Fabreze along with setting it out in the sun. None of these have worked. Other suggestions have been vanilla extract on a cloth & put in the drawer. Another suggestion was some of type of oil. Really need help. It’s quite difficult to sleep with such a strong odor. If you have a proven method, please send. NOTE: The best suggestion that worked for this sticky drawer was “wax paper” - double it over a few times & run it along the sliders or anywhere you think it is sticky. It worked so well the drawer almost came flying out of the nightstand. Do not over-work.
Thank you.

How to Eliminate Old Furniture Odors When Nothing Else Works?
Your best hope for sealing in those smells is shellac. It makes an excellent barrier coat over all wood species, and it sticks to almost anything, including urine. Zinsser makes a great product for this purpose, called Bullseye® SealCoat™. It’s a clear dewaxed shellac that you can apply to those drawer interiors easily with a brush. It dries quickly and should help to diminish that any smell. And since it doesn’t contain wax, you can apply other finishes like lacquer or varnish over it — they’ll stick just fine. SealCoat is also handy to have around the shop as a general purpose wood finish and sanding sealer. So, I’m sure you’ll find other uses for what’s left of the quart you buy.
Hi this is Peggy. I would try sprinkling some baking soda in it and putting it out in sun, be sure to set the drawer in the sun too.
OdoBan works wonders. I bought it at Home Depot in the cleaning section. Mine was lemon scented and it smells amazing, but then it neutralizes the odors. I paint and sell a lot of furniture and it's what I rely on.
Try leaving coffee beans in the drawer for a week or so. I have had good luck with this method- cheap coffee works fine.
I always save those little packets that come in purses, shoes, over the counter medicine bottles, etc. A handful of these can help tremendously. Also there is a new product out that is larger and is supposed to be for a whole small room, I looked for almost an hour and could not find the article I read. I hope this helps.
I’ll try all of them if I have to because I love that little writing desk. I’ll try Odonan first, then Shellac. This site has been berry helpful. Thank you
