I use a long handle snow brush that you use on your car to get the bulk of it
buy a leather couch or become a dog person
I use a pair of rubber gloves - running your gloved hands over the seat cushions and arm caps, pulls the hair right off! Of course, a vacuum does a pretty good job too! I prefer the rubber gloves instead of lugging the vacuum out all the time. I also gently brush my cat once or twice a week.
I wipe my furniture with a wet rag which lifts a lot of the hair. A dryer sheet also works (and smells nice). Best of luck.
I picked up rubber brushes for both the carpet and furniture. Works fantastic!!! Here is what I have.

My girlfriend on the east coast bought it and raved - I was skeptical, but for $20 and a ton of hair I had nothing of lose. I love it!
