I use a pumice stone to remove hard water stains from the toilet.
Use The Works. Can get it at Dollar General and totally liquids line in seconds. Use it in clear pyrex tea kettles, too!
Have you tried CLR?
drop a couple denture cleaning tablets in and leave overnigh.
A pumice stone scouring stick will make short work of your hard-water deposits, and it's completely earth-friendly/chemical free. They're commonly available at the supermarket near the cleaning supplies or the dollar store.

CLR is great. Make sure you read and follow all directions.
CLR (Walmart, Hardware Stores) will help a lot. We used a water softener system added to our filters. Also beware, the lime buildup also occurs inside your pipes & drains throughout your home. If you have slow drains, this could be a factor.
