How do you clean the grate under the air conditioner. I thank you guys

Take it off and take outside and give a good scrub and replace. Some grates just pop out some use screws to attach. I do mine once a month, but I have a lot of pets and a lot of fur.

We vacuum the excess dust and debris off, then use a scrub brush and scour upwards to get the stuff outside and anything that can be reached inside. If the vent doesn't come off, that is the best way we have figured out to clean them up

Does it have screws so it can be removed and cleaned that way?

I take mine off the wall, take it outside and scrub it with soapy water and a small brush. Rinse well and let dry before putting back on the wall. You can also repaint these with a good quality spray paint made for metal if you want to give it an updated, clean look.

First, I would clean it with a toothbrush to get the crud off. Then use fine sandpaper to get any rust off and smooth any rough edges. Then I would mark it off with masking tape and lightly paint the entire grate so it looks fresh and clean and new.

Two screws on top and hinges on the bottom. The screws turn about a half turn counterclockwise to loosen the grill and it should swing down. The screws may have an arrow showing the position for loosening and tightening. They don't unscrew completely out. It may hold a filter on the back or access to a filter which need to be changed at least every month. You can vacuum the outside or use a soft brush. Once you have it open brush or vacuum the backside. Look for a filter and replace it.

I'd remove the cover and give it a good cleaning outside. Let it dry then spray paint it for a fresh new look. Always change your filters frequently. (I write the date on the top for referencing.) Best of luck.

I do everything mentioned above, but have yet to buy paint to re -spray it due to rust showing in a couple of places, after 20 years. I also have many fur children and write the date on the filter or but change it more often than it says to. One thing bothers me. Some AC/ techs tell me that using the 3M or other tight weaved, white filters cause the AC/heat unit to work harder and wear out faster- is that really true? I don't like those loose mesh washable green ones

I live in an apartment. When i moved in 2 years ago, I noticed that gill and wondered what it was. I was told to never put anything in front of it. Later I found that it was part of the central HAVC. I had not seen any filter or where it was located, so I placed a service request and because I am handicapped, they sent a service person. He took the grill off and I had wondered why I was sneezing so much and found the answer. It was black and full of whatever. I also asked how to change the filter and he did it. Since I had never had a central air/heat system, this was all new to me. I had to loan him my vaccuum to clean it out and when he was done the interior was off-white. Had I not been handicapped, they would have told me to clean it myself.

I remove mine and take it outside and use a hose to thoroughly clean then dry and put back on, easy peasy::)

You need to,get a new AC company to maintain your unit. Mine does all that for me!

I take mine outside & turn the hose on it. If it's not clean enough, spray w/pine sol or similar & hose down again

I usually clean the grate to keep the AC in a good working condition. Even I do regular maintenance and check up of the AC by hiring air conditioning repair NJ. Keeping the AC clean is very important to prolong its life.
