After physically scraping off and removing all the remaining food residue or absorbing any freshly spilt liquids first if noticed before drying if possible or not , spray a fabulous carpet cleaning product called "FOLEX," available at Home Depot and probably lots of other retail stores as well. I use it to remove all sorts of food and liquid stains on our 30 yr. old off-white wool carpet with very good results. Just follow instructions on spray bottle. After spraying directly on to stain, I wait a minute or two, and then use a little strong hand scrub brush to scrub in all different directions and then blot and rub with an old white recycled terry cloth towel or wash cloth vs a subsequent different colored towel which could potentially bleed that new different color directly into your existing carpet. I have very good results with this product, even on upholstery fabrics. Good luck!
To get chocolate stains out, make a solution of: one-quarter cup hydrogen peroxide, one-half cup baking soda and one teaspoon of dish soap. Start by blotting the stain with this solution. Let it set for a couple minutes and then blot back up. If the stain is bad, you may need to repeat. I hope this helps you.
