I have a flower pot made of copper, its been sitting outside for a long time. My husband washed it, scrubbed it, and polished it but he still can't get rid of the mildew.

When my copper get nasty looking, I heat a large pot of water to boiling. I then add a good amount of vinegar, mix it, and then salt. Mix again. I immerse the copper and it usually comes out pretty good. Its the heat that helps. Do it all the time.
