How to vacuum a patio?
I'm older now and using brush to clean outside is harder and harder. Can I use a household vacuum cleaner (an old one) to sweep outside? Joyce

Southern Traditions: Why Did My Grandmas Sweep Their Yards?
My question as I watched these grandparents was always, "Why are you sweeping your yards, and why is there no grass around your house?" We have grass around ours.
If you have a lot of leaves you could use a shop vac. House vac might plug up.
You probably could, but it will probably jam up with the items it sucks up. If you can afford it, you should buy a Shop Vac, which is made specifically to vacuum up industrial/project waste, so it would be perfect for leaves and other stuff you want to remove..
I, also thought shop vac when I read your question. That way, if things are wet, you don't have to worry. You can get a small one and some shop vacs aren't very expensive.
I've done it many times with absolutely no problems with my vac. Just make sure it's dry (no recent rain), pick up larger items like leaves, rocks, etc. and vacuum away! Works great for me and easier on my old back than sweeping.
You could purchase an electric leaf blower too.
I second the leaf blower...$30 will get you one that is lightweight and low power. Please wear a mask and eye protection to avoid small debris. Also...can you just hose it off periodically?
