Picture hangers on cement fireplace

Question

I would like some ideas on how to, or what to use to attach picture hangers to a fireplace made out of uneven cement type rocks?

I had a carpenter hang a planter on my brick porch wall. He drilled a hole, waddled a stick and shoved it in the hole. Screwed into the stick. We have 50 mph winds here sometimes and it hasn't moved.

The 3M hangers and hooks work on stone, brick or cement.  Just be sure to buy the right weight.   As an art teacher I have used them on many different surfaces.

I hang in concrete with a concrete nail (driving it straight in, not on angle) using my 40oz hammer right into the mortar between the block, brick or stone. holds like a battle ship in a tsunami.

Command strips work well on brick. They are available at many stores including Target, WalMart and home improvement stores.

I would use the strips, once you drill a hole repairing it to match the cement or bricks is a nightmare. The wall has been changed by the weather and what ever patch you use sticks out.

I have seen metal hangers for bricks....the top goes over the brick and the bottom snaps into the bottom brick. There is a hook for hanging anything...picture, wreath, etc. I will admit, I had some but somewhere in moving I lost them. Worked pretty good.....you don't have to drill holes or anything. If 3M works and they make hooks for cement/brick...good job!

I've successfully used 'Brick Clip Hangers' on our fireplace. Ours came from local Ace hardware store and are probably what Pat May mentioned.

I have drilled a 1/4' hole and then filled the hole with round wooden toothpicks, broken off fairly even with brick. Then I can screw in a hook. If you decide not to use the hook anymore it can be removed. If you think the unused hole is unsightly it can be filled in and a dollop of paint or stain can make it disappear.

Since you said it was uneven cement type rock (meaning NOT brick), the hangers made for brick won't work for you.   Nor will Command strips, as they need a flat surface to be effective.   Companye has the right idea.   Drilling a hole will be your best, most secure option.   I have two holes drilled into my fireplace that are no longer being used and they aren't even noticeable.   :-)

How about industrial strength Velcro tape? Supposed to be available at Home Depot.
