How can I repair a concrete ledge on fireplace & paint?
I’d like to redo fireplace. Stained and ugly ledge. But it first needs repaired or ledge replaced. We don’t use it so for aesthetics only

I may be wrong, but it looks like it wasn't level and that's what caused the crack. If you replace it or cover it with tile or stone, you will need to level the surface underneath to prevent cracking from happening again.
Hi! I would fill with a grout, let dry and then sand till it's smooth. Then paint over all the hearth!
You can level it first to repair then ceramic tile it or just paint it.
As long as you don't use the fireplace I would make a three sided wooden frame to fit over the sides of the ledge and then use 1x4's or 1x6's to make a top. It would just slide on from the front and cover the entire ledge. You could stain and poly it and it would look great!
Hello Marlene,
Rake out joint and fill with dust and epoxy resin or maybe ceramic tile floor fixative. Use Brick and tile paint for finish when completely dry. Best of luck!
Hello Marlene, vacuum the crack out and use a mortar mix to fill the crack, smooth it as best as you can. Let it dry, the follow the instruction I have attached to paint it. Good luck with your project!

You can enlarge the crack using cold chisel and hammer (plus safety glasses). Then the crack can be filled with mortar and smoothed before painting.
I have a crack in my garage and I read to clean it out and then apply mortar inside the crack and make sure to smooth it down.
Since you will not use the fireplace, I would go to Home Depot or Lowes and get a tube Sikaflex 10.1 oz. Mortar Fix Sealant. Then you can either paint or tile over the hearth.
Tile over it with cement tiles
Could you white wash it, is it brick? For the ledge, I would get a board at Lowes or Home Depot and stain and attach it.
Hi! Tile or a new stone hearth are options. But, since you don't use the fireplace, what about putting a cushion on it for extra seating?

I would begin by making sure that this is level. You can build the area using sand as a base. If you use a filler to fill the crack in then paint the entire thing a solid color. That will hide the crack and give you a new look at the same time.
There’re some ways you can hide the crack. You could apply some primer on it and then try to paint the whole thing in a grey color. But I don’t suggest just doing it. The crack means that some of the surfaces are uneven or that construction was built wrong in some places. You should figure out which place and try t fix it. However, it may mean rebuilding the whole fireplace. I know it is a long-term and expensive variant, but if you don’t do it now, you can have more cracks on your fireplace in the future. There are affordable companies like сoncreters ballarat, which could also fix this problem pretty quickly.
