How can I cover an old concrete fireplace hearth?
The old fireplace has been sealed. I now have the less than pretty concrete slab that is about 1/2 to 3/4 inch higher than the surrounding floor. We are installing laminate flooring, but need ideas to cover, hide, or something to resolve the concrete slab surface.

You could put decorative tiles over it. It sounds like it'll stand out a bit anyway, since it's raised above the rest of the floor. I'd highlight it and make it a feature of the room, even though the fireplace isn't functional anymore.

It would be best if you could remove the slab and then your floor would be level all over. A hammer, gloves and safety glasses would help. Place a tarp close to where you are working and go to town.
Hi Cindy, you could put a tiles on it, or faux stone, or paint it a color that blends with the floor. Try to find a molding or wood trim that matches the flooring
