Pintrest have loads of ideas for using wine corks. There is a project for making a christmas door decoration which looks fab. As for placing one in water, it will float........... that's all I know! Good luck with your crafting ideas.

If you boil corks it makes them softer and easier to cut without crumbling. Winemakers boil corks for bottling.

Like MN Mom said, boiling makes them easier to cut, if that's required for your project, if not, you don't need to boil them. Some people cut them in half to make trivets and info boards, but there are a multitude of things you can do with used corks. I bought 1,000 of them from EBay last year and use them to put in lanterns and bottles that I resell at the Antique Mall. I also have several frames that I plan to put corks on, and trays. I'm going to make a tray by gluing them, then put Environtex over it. I've done it with glass, and stones, and they both look really good, so I image the corks would also look good. I agree with some of the others about Pinterest, I have an entire Pinterest board on ideas for corks, check it out, you'll find a ton of great ideas.
