How do I update my baseboards to look wider without replacing them?

My house was built with the shorter baseboards about 21/2"- 3". I'd like to have the modern look of about 5"-6" but it would be costly and messy to rip up all and replace. Help?

You add trim a few inches above then paint it all white. It seems as if the whole thing is actually trim!
Add to it to make it wider. Or use a trim with a design on it to make it taller.
